How to Win the War with the M4
By Phil Hees

When first playing the game, it's a good idea to keep a low profile.  Stay on side roads, go around towns, run if you see anything that looks like a tank.  Try to make it to the beginning objectives without getting any of your crew killed.  This will increase their rating, and increase your chances of simply surviving a few days.
Once familiar with spotting enemies, using your men as your eyes, you should begin to become a nuisance to the Germans.  For example, when entering a sector, do the following: Ask your men what they see ( an experienced crewman will give an experienced response, while crewmen new to battle can't identify anything).  Next, go to your binoculars, and identify  the biggest threat. Tigers and Panzers should be the first to take out, regardless of their distance or position. Give the command for full hull down to the driver. This gives you a much better chance of surviving the imminent shelling your tank will receive.
At this point, you are on the offensive.  The Germans have not spotted you, and your main gun should be trained on the deadliest target with the correct ammo (HE for field guns, trucks, and troops; AP for tanks of any size).  Fire your shell, and wait for your crew's response.  They will tell you where to position your gun, if necessary, and if your shell damaged anything.  A good gunner can acquire a target in three shots (one for horizontal turret movement, the next for vertical gun movement...too short or too long, and finally a hit).
Being able to react quickly when first entering a sector is very important.  Don't be afraid to commit; retreating takes valuable time.  Some sectors give the Germans better cover, and it may be hard to see where they are.  If this is the case, use your white phosphor shells and follow their muzzle flashes.  This tactic will also cut down your chances of being hit.
When supplies come, load up as much AP as possible, a stubborn Tiger needs many shells to be destroyed.  Targets that can be killed with HE's can also be killed with your machine gun.  After acquiring any HE susceptible target, use the machine gun with short spurts.  This will conserve shells, should supplies ever be cut from you.
This scenario of you clearing sectors and making objectives is a small part to a much larger campaign.  The adept M4 commander will receive more supplies, larger calibre guns, superior shells and armament for his men and tank.  By taking major roads and blasting through cities, you will not only make it to your objectives faster, but will be giving your crew valuable experience.
Having these skill mastered, it's now a question of how quick you destroy the enemy, and making it to your objective on time.  To destroy the Germans, enter a sector, evaluate the situation, and react.  Some may wish to play conservatively and depend on artillery and recon to stay alive. //
